Cardinals Split On Opening Day

The Yorkton Cardinals pushed two runs across homeplate in an opening day double header against the visiting Weyburn Beavers yesterday, but it was enough for a split, as they dropped Game One 3-1 in 10 innings, and won the second game 1-0.

The Cards almost won both games 1-0, having held a 1-0 lead in the first game into the ninth inning, when Weyburn tied it and then scored two more in the 10th. Chris Cox was the opening game starter, and gave up 2 hits and struckout 8 in just 5 innings of work. 4 Cardinal pitchers combined for 12 K's in the first game, and Will Thorp scored their only run.

Game 2 saw just a 7-inning game, and Jordan Herbison allowed only 2 hits to get the win, whlie walking one and striking out 6. Andrew Haake drove in the game's only run on an RBI double in the second.

The busy WMBL schedule continues tomorrow for the Cardinals as they host Moose Jaw at 7:00.
