Gettin' Caught Up!

I know, WAY late posting... with Sat/Sun off, I went straight from Humboldt to Watson, and now Saskatoon to spend time with family (no internet @ the grandparents!)... but you know what happened on Friday.

The Millionaires pulled another rabbit out of the hat, this time, Curtis Beech broke his stick on a slapshot, the puck rolled right to Kale Dolinski, who scored the game winner with 16.3 seconds left to give the Mils a 3-2 win over Humboldt in Game 1 of the SJHL Credit Union Cup Final.

Brady Wacker opened the scoring for Humboldt with just over 5:00 left in the second period. The Mils scored two quick ones in the third when Matt Kinnunen (PP) and Tyson Melnychuk each scored their 2nd of the playoffs and finally beat Bronco goalie Matt Larochelle. Then with 5:00 left in the 3rd, Tanner Vandesype led the Broncos on a 3-on-2 rush where he found Nick Kalnicki at the side of the net to tie the game. And, just when it looked like overtime, Dolinski potted the game winner, his 6th of the playoffs. Melville's now a very impressive 4-and-2 when trailing after two periods in these playoffs.

So for the third straight series, the Mils take Game 1, and unlike last round against Weyburn, they'll try to follow it up with a Game 2 win on home ice. Game 2 goes Tuesday at Melville Stadium (7:15/7:30 on GX94).

In the MJHL Final on Saturday, the Portage Terriers opened up with a 6-3 win on home ice over the Selkirk Steelers. The Steelers had just one night off since knocking out the Winnipeg Saints in Game 6 of the Addison Final on Thursday. The Terriers still have yet to lose in these playoffs, now 9-and-0.
