Great news both for city and hockey club. Congrats to the board for making the right decision.
Yah, I agree. Feez genuinely is a good dude, and a great coach. Smart decision going forward for this club!
Good news for Feez and the Mils. Now to put it altogether and bring that elusive championship to Melville.
No brainer. Good to see it done and done early. Time to move on and look forward to next season.
I wonder what you people are thinking? This is not a good move for the Club at all. Talk to someone who accually knows hockey, I mean knows hockey and that is not what they will tell you at all. He is a good junior b coach, no more.
Really not a fan of this move!!!! 8 years of mediocrity I guess is good enough to get you a new 2 year contract. Hope the management knew what they were doing when they made this decision.
Missed the playoffs in his first full season, with a team that was (I'm guessing) gutted after winning the league pennant the year before.7 years since: - Playoffs every year, below .500 once (2010-2011 and almost upset an Estevan team with nine 20's)- 4 South Finals (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012), 2 finals appearances (2007, 2009), the two South Final losses were Game 7 (2012) and double overtime Game 6 (2008) both on the road.Is that really mediocre? No championships I know, but find me a a more successful 8 year run in the Junior Mils' history. Go ahead, look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melville_Millionaires
The Mills made the right decision today...Jamie is a well respected coach around the league and also with players and their families. He knows where to get talent as he has brought in many valuable players. We almost won game 7 this year against a Number 1 team. How can you complain about that?To the people who do not like Fiesel and who do not think the Board made the right decision go elsewhere to watch hockey..We do not need fans who bitch all the time.Congrats to Jamie for his 2 year contract and our time will come to win that Championship.Go Mills!
Well lets see, Bob Beatty La Ronge, Bob Beatty Humbolt, Dean Brockman as assistant and then coach humbolt, Dwight McMillan Red Wings, Terry Simpson PA Raiders,,,,have you heard of those guys craig
And yes those coachs were with other teams and was not in the mills past but come on,look for the coach whos got more. The old mans club on the exec cant reach for the banner dont expect the team or a guy like fiesel to deliver then.
Sooooo, they should have brought Terry Simpson out of retirement? I'm pretty sure Dwight, Bob and Dean are all busy. Still not sure what you're getting at. I never said he's the most successful coach in the history of the league.
To Anonymous: It takes more than a few people to make the decision to hire a Coach. To call it a old mans club come on. Why do you not join the Executive if you have such good ideas for a coach?Do you also realize that maybe the above mentioned coaches would not even come to Melville, besides the wages they would demand; probably out of the Mills budget.Like the person before said if you do not like Jamie stay out of the rink.
The Mils were one game away from the Final. It's not ideal, but it's far better than 4 other teams in the South. Plus as Craig pointed out, he's done well in the playoffs...just never won a Championship. The grass is always greener, but not in this case. The Board made the right decision on this one.
Some of these comments are really stupid. Come on people, give your heads a shake and post mature sensible points of view. Good job, Craig.
Fans in many centers would have enjoyed making a conference final this season and while not winning comes up short of the goal of putting a banner in the rink, it's certainly enough to keep Fiesel behind the bench in Melville. I'm sure many fans long for the days when Sonny Famulak or Brad McEwen were guiding the team, but probably just as many, if not more, like the fact the Millionaires have iced a competitive club most years under Fiesel.Anyone I know who has a good deal of hockey knowledge understands the process of hiring a coach after getting rid of one.For every Sonny, Brad and Gerry James, we've also seen Stan Jensen, John Migneault and Len Williams and these guys were less than stellar.I'll take two league finals in eight years as a harbinger of better things to come.
This is my last post about the wrong choice of coach, I have talked to many of the players away from the rink, and a handful of the exec's and unlike the post here the majority dont agree with all of you. Jack, by saying come on to my Old mans shows me all i need to know. The one thing that i might have overlooked was the money they spend on a coach. This amount I have never asked about and maybe no good coach would take on this position for the cash offered. Craig your a good friend of Jamie ask him what he tells the boys about the money he makes from hockey, and what he thinks of the boys future with hockey. I wish I could give more of the info that I put into this rant but it wouldnt be right.
to the person that commented about joining the executive if you don't like the decision.. that wouldn't help, the decision to re-hire jamie and offer him a contract was made by the old boys club without ANY input from the executive.. the whole organization is run like its 1980 still!
FYI......The executive had no say in this decision, it was management
The Dwight Mcmillan of today certainly is not one up on Fiesel. Sure, he's the most successful coach in junior hockey but at this point he's not the type of guy I'd want to see in the rink. In the last decade his success has largely been limited to South pennants and subsequent first round playoff exits. Last night he wasn't man enough to stick around for the presentation of the trophy, seems he was too upset with the league having suspended his top player. Worthy of note is this is the second year in a row he's had a player suspended in the playoffs due to stick swinging. That's certainly not the direction I want to see the Mills go.....
I think Fiesel is a great recruiter of players. He seems to always be able to get good players to come to Melville. I question his ability to form a team. With the great talent they have had there, they should have won something by now. I guess he gets another 2 years to figure it out.
The only exec I know of that do not like him are also the ones leaving this year because it's too much work. When things don't go their way, they leave. See ya! I for one am proud we re-signed him! Good on the management committee!Yours in hockey,Doug Schultz
The Mils don't need an executive. They just need volunteers. The desicion to keep Fiesel was made by management. What is the executive committee for then? do they not play some part in the organization of the Mils?
I dont think the recruting is really that good at all, four to five players at least we didnt agree with(our season ticket group), and no way do i wish to say who(met a few of them and their good kids) but just werent quit there, and we miss Parker, fiesel shouldnt have run him out
I'm sure the old mans club you refer to, did 10 times more than you and your friends put together. If you ever paid attention, you'd see they were all constantly working unlike many executive who didn't. Thats the problem with many organizations. People have egos and want to be heard but aren't willing to work for it. Looking at the number of executive members there are, it would have been a never ending meeting I'm sure and at the end of the day not everyone is going to be happy with the decision they made but I would think if your an executive member you should support the decision made whether you agree with it or not or get off the executive. Simple as that.
FYI Parker had issues so do not say Jamie made him leave. Not true.Doug S. you are right the correct decision was made by Management.Go elsewhere to watch hockey if you do not like Jamie.; he does not play the team does.
Dont mistake egos for independant thought. I like the 1980s referance,so true, dont want any new ideas now do we. Egos,,to funny
Independent thought? Since when has that ever been taken away? Wow, you never got a say in the rehiring of the coach. Poor you. From what I've been told the executive is in on everything else so you can't say new ideas are never listened to. All this cause you wanted to be heard. Like it or leave.
The millionaires organization is in the big leagues now! A new rink and a class act team under jamie. Problem is the organization, under the executive continues to be ran like the hockey moms of a minor hockey team are running it. This limits the possibilities of the team on the ice, the old boys need to retire and bring in a fresh executive team! My opinion only! Good job on bringing feez back
Jake, I believe you tried to join the executive one year but quit once you found out you had to actually do some work so Quit bashing the executive if you agreed with their decision.
i challenge every single one of you to step up and come to the Mils AGM, and join the executive for the 2012/2013 season and see for yourselves how it is run, a junior hockey team requires a lot of help to run. unfortunately, there is no need for an executive in Melville, all you need is the 7 people on the management committee and the rest can be simply volunteers. This has been going on for MANY years now that the management committee (old boys club) makes all the decisions behind the scenes before it even makes it to an executive meeting, maybe these people should wake up get off the executive and lets run the organization like this is 2012 not 1980!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing surprises me any more i have been with the Moneymen since the 1970 season which adds up to a lot of years to date. Enjoyed every one of them. But when i read some of these comments from peope who are two faced and afraid to leave their names it does not surprise me at all. Yes i am from the old boys club and again enjoy it so to the people who are afraid to let people know their names good luck with your future and the fear of letting people no who you are. No this THE MELVILLE MILLIONAIR JR A HOCKEY CLUB WILL ALWAYS BE HERE THE TRADITION WILL NEVER DIE. We have a responible to the public, coach staff and players to help them thru each season and maybe we are not always right you cant change the past but we can make the future possibly better. Have a good day everyone. And again to people who have all kind of comments but no name look in the mirror you might no that person.
