MILS TIE SERIES IN OT / STAMPS UP 2-0

The Melville Millionaires let leads of 3-0, 4-2, and 5-3 slip away, but Michael Desjarlais made everyone forget about that, when he ripped a wrist shot top shelf off a face-off, 7:29 into overtime, as the Millionaires beat the Yorkton Terriers 6-5 (OT), to tie up their SJHL Sherwood Conference Semi-Final at 1-1.

Colin Mospanchuk, Ian McNulty and Alex Elliott staked the Mils to a 3-0 lead, all scoring just over 4 minutes apart. Tyler Giebel scored his 3rd of the series on the powerplay late in the first, cutting it to 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Early in the 2nd, Curtis Oliver scored on a backhand on a partial breakaway, his first of two in the period. Lucas Froese got that one back for Melville as he got a lucky bounce off the glass and potted a powerplay goal to make it 4-2, but Oliver would pull the Terriers to within one again with a long slap shot.

Mospanchuk added his 2nd of the game early in the third to make it 5-3, but Brent Struble and Ryon Sookro scored 21 seconds apart around the midway point to even things up once again and force overtime.

Each team had a powerplay in overtime. Yorkton's carried over for 1:07 after Brett Kipling was sent to the box for tripping late in regulation. Melville got their chance shortly after, when the Terriers were caught with 6 skaters on the ice, but the Mils failed to capitalize.

Not long after the powerplay, Lucas Froese won a faceoff to the right wall, and Desjarlais walked into the slot and went high-glove on Warren Shymko, though a maze of traffic.

Shymko made 28/34 saves, while Blake Voth stopped 28/33 at the other end.

Both teams went 2/7 on the powerplay, while Terrier defenseman Chase Norrish racked up 3 assists.

Game 3 goes Monday in Yorkton at 7:30.

The upstart Swan Valley Stampeders are up 2-0 in their first round MJHL series with OCN, after a 3-1 win on home ice Saturday.

The Blizzard scored first, their first goal of the series, with 10 seconds left in the first period, but the Stamps got the next three.

T.J. Fairall scored twice in the 2nd period, while Justin Valentino assisted on both, and scored early in the 3rd for the 3-1 final.

Valentino has points on all five Stampeder goals in this series, with 2-goals and 3-assists.

Shots were 38-33 for Swan, as Jayson Argue made 32 saves, and has now stopped 67/68 shots in the series. He's 2-0, 0.50 GAA, .985%, and a shutout two games into the playoffs.

**There were 1005 fans in Swan Saturday night, and 1464 in Melville. Way to go fans!**

The Stamps travel north to OCN on Monday for Game 3 (6:30 / 7:00 on GX94).

Only going to get better for the Mils as guys return. The rest of the guys on the team have to pick up their play in the meantime. Good win, need to grind a little more and win those one-on-one battles.

Hey Steiner, on your broadcasts do the Dub scores at the end if you can, really appreciate it.

Ya... There's just no wireless in the new barn in Melville, and it takes forever to jump around on my phone haha. Normally do put Dub on when I've got it up on the laptop.

I really do not think our Multi Million rink is a barn....another slam at the MILLS.

Barn: Hockey slang for 'rink'.

Relax.

Some barns have the Internet......so no, you are right, your new rink isn't a barn.

Craig if they dont have wireless in there for you, they should hardwire a connection to your booth. Someone is able to do live scoring updates so the net is there somewhere.

Multi Million dollar rink and no wireless connection, makes a person wonder who built this "barn"?? Nice place to watch a game but the flaws are very obvious!

I feel for you Craig, on Sat watching the 4 of you crammed in that little space trying to do a broadcast, pretty sad for a new "barn", another obvious flaw!

Wow, "Anonymous" you took that as a slam against the Mils??? You can't be a real hockey fan!!

Really wasn't trying to make a big deal about the wireless, was just explaining why I didn't have an extensive out of town scoreboard. Estevan's "BARN" is a scaled down NHL rink and doesn't have working wireless either. New buildings, I'm sure the kinks will be worked out.

There is a hardwire in the booth but the Mils need it for their webcast.

It's no big deal!
