Wolverines Stay Alive

Dylan Favell scored a natural hat trick in the third period to make it close, but the Wayway Wolverines held off the Swan Valley Stampeders for a 4-3 regulation time win to keep their playoff hopes very much alive.

Wayway built a 4-0 lead, thanks to first period goals from Shane Goodrunning and Russell Turner, and second period markers from Richard Little and Zaine Walker.

The Wolverines, in a must-win game, were clearly the more desperate team in the first 40 minutes, with nine 20-year-olds knowing they needed a win to keep their season alive.

Favell took the game over in period three, becoming the second straight Stampeder to score a hat trick, after his linemate Kyle Smart turned the trick Saturday night in Swan.

Shots were 31-28 for Swan Valley.

The Wolverines are now 2 points back of Swan for a playoff spot with a game in hand. They do have to PASS the Stamps to get to the playoffs, not just catch them, because the Stampeders have the tie-breaker, thanks them going 5-4 in the 9 game season series.

Wayway has 3 games left, the Stamps have 2, all in the next five days, and the two teams don't play on the same night again, which will make for plenty of scoreboard watching and *COUGH* radio listening!

Wayway's in Dauphin tonight (GX94), Swan's home to OCN tomorrow (GX94), Wayway heads to Neepawa Thursday, Swan's in Dauphin Friday, and Wayway hosts Dauphin Saturday night.

The games still matter!

6:50 Pre Game Show, 7:00 Play by Play from Dauphin tonight.
