SJ SHERWOOD RACE UPDATE

The Yorkton Terriers had a productive night without even hitting the ice on Saturday, as they learned that both Melville and Estevan lost to the bottom two teams in the league in regulation.

Melville out-shot Melfort 48-28, but lost 2-1 to a Mustangs' team that had 13 skaters. The Bruins wrapped up a three game road trip with a 5-2 loss in Kindersley. Halfway through that Estevan swing, they looked poised to quite possibly take 6 points, after a shutout win in Kindersley Friday, and a 2 goal lead in Battleford in the third period, but they wound up with 3, after the Stars came back to win that game in a shootout, before the Bruins fell Saturday in Kindersley.

A Melville win over Melfort would have left them 1 point back of Yorkton with a game in hand. Now, they'll need a little help to catch the Terriers, and they've got an extremely tough schedule to finish the season. And, I'm not so sure the Millionaires' biggest concern now is catching Yorkton, as much as it is NOT being caught by Estevan.

As I did a couple weeks ago, here's what all three teams have left, with about 3 weeks to go in the regular season.

Yorkton Terriers (28-19-2-3, 61 points, 2nd)
6 Games Remaining (3 home, 3 away)
Tue/Feb/7 vs Battlefords
Wed/Feb/8 @ Estevan
Sat/Feb/11 @ Notre Dame
Sun/Feb/12 vs La Ronge
Wed/Feb/15 vs La Ronge
Sat/Feb/18 @ Notre Dame

Melville Millionaires (25-18-4-4, 58 points, 3rd)
7 Games Remaining (5 home, 2 away)

Tue/Feb/7 @ Weyburn
Wed/Feb/8 vs Battlefords
Fri/Feb/10 @ Nipawin
Sat/Feb/11 vs La Ronge
Tue/Feb/14 vs La Ronge
Fri/Feb/17 vs Humboldt
Tue/Feb/21 vs Notre Dame

Estevan Bruins (26-25-0-2, 54 points, 4th)
5 Games Remaining (4 home, 1 away)
Wed/Feb/8 vs Yorkton
Fri/Feb/10 vs Kindersley
Sat/Feb/11 vs Humboldt
Fri/Feb/17 @ Weyburn
Sat/Feb/18 vs Weyburn

Reminder that Estevan has the tie-breaker against Melville, but not Yorkton, due to the head to head season series'.

If the Bruins win all of their last 5 games, they'd finish with 64 points, meaning, Yorkton would need 3 points in their last 6 games (ex: 1-4-1) to finish ahead of them. Melville would need 7 points in their last 7 games (ex: 3-3-1) to be ahead of Estevan. A Yorkton win in Estevan on Wednesday (7:30 on GX94) would clinch the Terriers a top-three spot.

Ah yes, thanks. I just pasted it from the last time I posted the schedule when the league sked had the typo. I'll broadcasting that one so hopefully I don't show up Thursday!
