TERRIERS, WOLVERINES WIN ON OPENING NIGHT

With top returning scorer Brent Struble out of the lineup with an injury, the Yorkton Terriers got key contributions from newcomers, in a 3-2 win on opening night of the SJHL season in Weyburn.

Jamie Vlanich opened the scoring, and would later add an assist in his first SJHL game. Ryan Sookro also scored in his SJ debut.

Kyle McLeod scored the winner on the powerplay in the third period, as the Terriers went 2/5 with the extra man, and killed off their only shorthanded situation.

Warren Shymko got his first win of the year, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced.

The Wayway Wolverines trailed 3-0 midway through their first game of the season, and in the toughest rink in the league to win in, the stormed back to beat the OCN Blizzard 4-3 in a shootout.

Richard Little, Brett Lafond and Brett Pinkerton completed the comeback, while defenseman Thomas Ward-Cardinal scored the only goal in the shootout.

In his first MJHL game, Josh Switzer stopped 26/29 shots, and all four shooters he faced in the shootout.
