Jr Cards Back To SESBL Final

SESBL

It's back to the South East Senior Baseball League final for the Yorkton Junior Cardinals.

After getting a first round bye, the Cards showed little sign of rust, beating the Melville Bison in two straight games, Monday and Tuesday, by a combined 22-2... advancing to their 3rd straight title.

The Jr Cardinals, who won the league in each of the last two seasons, beat the Bison 14-1 on Monday, and 8-1 last night in Melville.

The Willowbrook Royals posted a 9-3 win in Canora over the 2nd place Supers last night, to lead that Semi-Final 1-0.

Game 2 goes tomorrow in Willowbrook. The Royals lost in the final to the Junior Cardinals last year... while Canora did the same thing 2 years ago.

--------------------

The Yorkton Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning, but that was all, and the Swift Current Indians scored twice in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th, to beat the Cards 8-2 at Jubilee Park.

Kevin McLeod had 2 of Yorkton's 5 hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

James Green stole his 29th base of the season... that leads the WMBL.

The Cards host Swift again tonight at 7:05... and with Weyburn losing 6-3 in Regina... Yorkton remains 1.5 games back of the Beavers for a playoff spot.

WMBL

The Melville Millionaires found out there's no such thing as a free pass in this league... as they allowed the league-worst Edmotnon Prospects to score 6 runs in the first inning, 9 in the third, as they Mils lost 17-4 in the Alberta Capital.

The Prospects cranked out 20 hits... and each of their starting 9 players had at least one... most had two... some had 4 or 5.

The Mils managed 8 hits... 4 of them coming from LF Will Fontnow. He was 4-for-4, but he didn't get much help from Melville's normally dangerous middle of the order behind him. Fontnow had no RBI's, and was stranded all 4 times he got on base.

Melville's in Edmonton again tonight, and wrap up their four game trip tomorrow in Saskatoon.
