Stamps/Wolverines Draft Recap

The Wayway Wolverines and Swan Valley Stampeders selected 5th and 6th in each round respectively Sunday morning at the MJHL Draft, except in Round 2, where Wayway's pick went to Dauphin as part of the Josh Daley trade. (I think I said Wayway was picking 4th on the air this week, but forgot they also finished just ahead of the Saints). They used their 5th overall pick to take high-scoring forward Jayce Hawryluk, a Roblin product. Hawryluk was also a high Western Hockey League pick (2nd Round, Brandon), and one report I found says he had 264 points in 54 games last season playing 'AA' Bantam with the Russell Rams. Swan Valley then grabbed Souris native Michael Fortin 6th overall.

Swan Valley Picks
1 (6) Michael Fortin, F (Souris)
2 (17) Tanner Lewis, F (Virden)
3 (28) Jesse Mitchell, D (Anola)
4 (39) Brett Masterson, F (Winnipeg)
5 (50) Derek Davies, G (Stonewall)
6 (61) Layne Anderson, F (Gillam)

Auto Protects
Cody Ellingson, F (Swan River)
Chandler Ashcroft, F (Swan River)

Total:
5F, 2D, 1G

Wayway Picks
1 (5) Jayce Hawryluk, F (Roblin)
3 (27) Patrick Normandeau, D (Ste. Anne)
4 (38) Ben Ingimundson, D (Winnipeg)
5 (49) William Harrison, F (Winnipeg)
6 (60) Bronson Ammeter, G (Starbuck)

Auto Protects

David Dunn, D (Russell)
Robert Wishart, D (Russell)

Total: 2F, 4D, 1G

It was almost a last minute decision not to travel to Russell this morning, but I figured I didn't have a lot to gain by getting up at 6:00 on a Sunday to drive an hour for a 2 hour draft. Getting up early is what Monday's for!

I will give a shout to Barry Butler and Guy Vestby sometime today though, so I can get their thoughts on the air bright and early Monday morning, and I'll post it here too.
