Futures Announcements on Hold

Francis Dupuis stopped all 40 shots he faced, as the Pembroke Lumber Kings dethroned the 2-time defending RBC Cup Champion Vernon Vipers 2-0 in Sunday's RBC Cup final in Camrose. That might be a bit of a silver lining for the MJHL and Anavet Cup Champion Portage Terriers, whose only win of the RBC came against Pembroke. Portage won their first game, lost their next three, and after being part of a 3-way tie for third, were the odd team out due to the tie-breaking formula. Tough way to go out.

With that, it is now officially the off-season in Junior 'A' hockey, and "future considerations" deals can be announced as soon as today.

Late last week, it sounded like we could have as many as two announcements involving local teams today (MON), but after double-checking on Sunday, it sounds like one will be late Monday at the earliest, maybe Tuesday, the other could be pushed to Wednesday, while yet another will be announced on Wednesday. For two of our teams, it's time to pay off the VISA, while another is getting set for a BIG payday after selling some assets in January.

Was hoping to have a deal to lead the Monday morning sports with, but whatever days they're announced, it will make for a much busier week of hockey news than early-mid May normally is. Gotta like that!
