Terriers Send It To Seven!!!

Craig Eisenhut scored 1:24 into overtime, on a powerplay, as the Yorkton Terriers completed a comeback similar to that of the Ice Wolves' the game before.

The Terriers won Game Six 4-3 (OT), and have forced a deciding seventh game in the SJHL's Credit Union Cup, a series that HAS TO be the best this league has seen in a long, long time.

Yorkton struck first, but once again, the lead didn't hold. Clarke Breitkreuz went coast-to-coast like butter on toast, a carbon copy of him Game 5 goal, scoring unassisted at 7:48 of the second period, after a scoreless first. Canora product Skyler Hladun tied it at 12:12, just one second after an Ice Wolves' powerplay wrapped up. It stayed 1-1 after two.

Then, depending who you cheer for, a couple controversial markers by the Ice Wolves to make it 2-1 and 3-1 early in the third. At game speed, it was tough to tell, but Logan Herauf's goal to give the Ice Wolves the lead was VERY close to offside, and it looked like Devin Peters had the puck under his glove before Travis Eggum stuffed it home for a 3-1 advantage.

Any way you slice it, this series has had it's share of controversial calls, BOTH WAYS... and the Terriers came back to win despite a 3-1 deficit.

Shortly after going up by two goals, Justin Ducharme ran Kurtis Decker into the end boards from behind, and received 5 and a game. Decker went down in a heap, and I wouldn't expect the 20-year-old back anytime soon, even if the Terriers' season goes beyond Tuesday, but let's hope for the best.

It's not the way the Terriers wanted to get a break, but after starting the series 1-for-20 on the powerplay, and generating ZERO chances in the first three or so minutes of the major, Zak Majkowski, who had scored Yorkton's first PP goal of the series, would bury their second as well. The managed the one goal in the 5-minute major. Breitkreuz would then notch his second of the game at 15:39, with 4:21 to play, on a fluky bounce that even he couldn't describe after the game.

While it was the Terriers taking costly penalties in Game 5, leading to their 3-1 lead evaporating... the Ice Wolves took a couple tough ones at key times, and with 1:06 to play in regulation, Travis Eggum got his stick up high on Brant Remenda, drawing blood, and was send to the box for 4 minutes. Robbie Ciolfi and Justin Buzzeo had glorious chances to end it in regulation, but Adam Bartko, who was terrific all night, extended the game to overtime.

(On a side-note the Terriers discipline was top notch in Game 6. There's not one player on that team who didn't want to go after Ducharme after the hit on Decker, but they held back, knowing a PP was coming, and it was a crucial point of the game. In the regular season, there's no question someone's dropping their gloves, but this wasn't the time or place. I'm sure Kurtis would rather his teammates take the PP and score a goal than to fight for him. I hope he was able to watch or hear the end. And, despite what the website says, the Terriers were 2/4 on the PP, La Ronge was 0/3. They really botched the Eggum penalty online, giving half of it to Rhyse Dieno, who served Ducharme's 5 minute major.)

The PP continued for close to three minutes in overtime, and Buzzeo brought the puck up the right boards, and dropped it to Jeremy Boyer, who was playing the right point. Boyer flew down the wall, and centred to an open Eisenhut, who ripped the winner top shelf for the 4-3 win.

It's a real shame someone has to lose this series... but someone will on Tuesday in La Ronge.

Eisenhut's OT Winner

Booyah? Ok that was weak! But Woo-Hoo, Oh Yeah and Oh Baby have all been used either this year or last.

All I know is I'm STOKED for Game 7!

The thing about the 2-1 goal that pissed people off on our side was the fact that the linesman put his arm up 3/4 of the way, and then switched his call to no offside. Looked like a baseball umpire calling an out and changing it to a safe. That's why people were so upset.

The online scoring thing also has Struble playing instead of Johnson.

Not that it really matters haha.

As a fans perspective its real frustrating when you see calls like the obvious off side call on their goal and the other one looked like Peters had it covered, what about the obvious hook in front of the net on. I just dont understand when you bring in Western Hockey League refs and you see this kind of stuff happening. Probably the best hockey series in a long time in this area! Good Luck Terriers on Tuesday

go laronge but weiler was on yorktons side all nite.

stein you are no where near the person Struthers was. He cheered for every team not just yok.

yes thank goodness they won because if they would have lost after allowing those two goals it would have been a shame, calls have been missed for both teams and I know it happens but when they lead to such huge goals, it is very dissappointing

The legend of Terry Struthers will never die!

You're saying he would be "cheering" for La Ronge right now? Or are you saying he "cheered" for Melville, Swan, Wayway as much as Yorkton?

If any of those three were in this spot right now I'd be just as excited for them.

I'm pretty sure I can dig up some old clips (Swan-Vigier in overtime 2008, Melville- Final vs Humboldt 2009, Wayway-tying/winning Game 3 in Winkler this year) that would suggest I cover all of our teams the same.

But thanks for the constructive criticism, anonymous!!! I'll try to cheer for La Ronge on Tuesday! PFFT!

Some people are hilarious, thanks for the laughs!

Being a guy who has traveled with Steiner to do hockey games in Wayway..Swan Valley..Melville and Yorkton, I know first hand that Craig cheers equally for all 4 teams with GX.

I know the East Sask-West Man. area is pretty lucky to have Steiner calling the games.

It certainly appeared at the time that La Ronge's second was aided by an offside, but after reviewing the replay a couple of times, I'm thinking it was a great non-call.

The puck was already in the zone and there was an Ice Wolf inside the zone, but he was hustling back to tag up. The replays show that he did, in fact, tag up before the attacking La Ronge player picked up the puck and continued in the zone. Therefore, I think it was a great non-call.

Great series, great emotion, and the only shame is that it has to end tomorrow in La Ronge. If only La Ronge wasn't such a far trip for us to see live! Looking forward to hearing the radio broadcast - awesome job as always, Craig!

what replay did you watch, he did tag up but other player was already inside the line so still OFFSIDE whatever, mute point, now that terriers won something like the non goal in the other game, had LR not won that would have been a bigger concern as it was definatly a goal S... happens

Craig,

Heard last night at hockey game that La Ronge hockey team travels by airplane to Yorkton because of distance. Is this true? Perhaps Yorkton needs to consider. I think this is unfair for Yorkton.

call me crazy but when i listen to a yortkon station calling a hockey game, i'm not at all shocked that he /she may be cheering for the home team.

good for the boys to have learned from their mistakes, and showed great composure last nite. true grit, true champions, no matter the outcome on tuesday.

the fans have truely gotten their moneys worth!

So true if you listen to any local station they are going to be on the side of their home team, in gx case they have 4 and you are of course there to cover their games, tough when they play each other, any team in any league would get this coverage, Laronge included, and just do you know Craig Terry Struthers was just like you, he got excited over gx covered teams

I do believe that the fans arrived by plane, not the players. Apparently the players bus picked up the fans from the airport, but I could be wrong.

I really don't understand some of the comments on this site about Craig's bias towards the Terriers against LaRonge. He's paid by a local company, which in turn generates revenue through local advertising and you want him to call it down the middle. C'mon! Give your head a shake! LaRonge has their own play by play guy who's covering this series as well. Don't tell me for a second that he's calling it down the middle. As for the Struthers comments, yah, Terry was great at what he did, but Craig is coming into his own as well, and years from now the legend of Craig Stein will preceed whoever succeeds him. (Plus, Struthers never had a blog to keep fans "in the know", so kudos to Steiner for that).

Although there is nothing worse than "Homer" annoucing (Listen to the Minnesota Vikings radio play by play guys, and you will know where I am coming from), Craig doesn't even come close to this.

Craig you do an outstanding job for all of the teams that you cover. No matter what you do...you can't make everyone happy.

100% agree - great job Craig and while of course you cheer for the local teams that GX covers (as did Struthers), you do a great job of balancing your broadcasts by calling it the way it is without bias

Craig don't pay attention to the losers who have nothing better to do than to come on sports blogs and rip the announcers just to get attention. You're doing a hell of a job and if you cheer for Yorkton then who the hell cares! Isn't that supposed to be the point when you work for a Yorkton radio station??

craig, i like what your doing with the goal calls (booya). with a little work you can be the next randy moller. for the winner in game 7 i want to hear you say "he shoots he scoooooooooores.....ducks! fly together" -john n. #22

I'm diggin' the Ducks Fly Together call, doesn't have to be the winner though.

As for the Ice Wolves flying, it is just the fans. Wolves were on that wonderful bus ride after the game and got home at 5 in the morning.

Looking forward to a fantastic game seven.
