Portage/Selkirk MJHL Final

The Portage Terriers and Selkirk Steelers both won Game 6 on Tuesday night, to advance to the MJHL Turnbull Cup Final.

Portage, for the third time in the series, won on the road in Dauphin, 4-1, and after dropping the series opener at home, won 4 of the next 5 games, including the final 3.

Selkirk was trailing Winkler 2-0 in the third period, and when it looked like that one might be going to Game 7, Kyle Mulder scored two third period goals, and Colan Jackson scored the winner early in double overtime, as the Steelers won 3-2.

Winkler was the only #1 seed in Saskatchewan or Manitoba not to reach the final, and Selkirk was first place in that division for most of the year, until the final week or so when Winkler overtook them.

Had Dauphin and Portage needed a Game 7, they would have waited until Friday, while Winkler/Selkirk would have gone Thursday... but I wonder if since both series ended Tuesday, if they'll get going on Friday in the final, just like Yorkton/La Ronge in the SJ.

The MJHL rotates each year which Division has home ice advantage, and even though Dauphin was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone last season, they started on the road in Winnipeg for last year's final... which means the Sherwood has home ice this year, and Portage will host Game 1.

The RBC Cup host Camrose Kodiaks completed a big comeback Tuesday. They were down 3-games-to-1 to Okotoks in the AJHL South Final, and just won Game Seven 3-2 on the road. Camrose will play the Spruce Grove Saints in the AJHL Final.

Did you check out Darren Dupont's blog re: SAIT/Mount Royal. An interview with Brett Bothwell (former Terrier goalie) would be interesting.
