Ryan Duhaime, Josh Daley and Dave Williams scored, leading the Wayway Wolverines to a 4-3 shootout victory over Dauphin in their final meeting against the Kings this regular season.
Paul Vandevelde had a pair of helpers, while Brett Gagnon got the start, and kicked out 31/34 shots.
The Wolverines (28-25-7) know they'll finish 5th in the Sherwood, despite guaranteeing themselves an above .500 season with Monday's win.
Wayway will face either Winkler or Selkirk in Round 1, whoever finishes first in the Addison. Winkler came from behind, and lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Saints on Monday, earning a point, while Selkirk lost to Portage. That leaves the Flyers (2 games left) 3 points up on Selkirk (3 games left).
Dauphin meanwhile, stayed mathematically alive in their chase for 1st. They're now 6 points behind Portage, with 3 games to play. Doing a quick scan of the schedule, Portage has the season series right now with Dauphin, 4-3... but Dauphin hosts Portage on Friday. If Dauphin wins, the season series is tied, and it comes down to overall wins. Dauphin has to run the table and Portage has to lose their final two games for the two teams to finish tied, in which case Dauphin would have the most wins.
It might not even be that far-fetched, with Portage finishing with (@ DAU Fri, @ SELK Sun)... while Dauphin, aside from the head-to-head with POR, goes (@ NEE Wed, vs Blues SAT).
Only reason I'm paying this much attention to this race, is because Swan will play one of the two teams in Round 1. The Stamps are fourth now, but could still catch OCN for 3rd. They'll need a win tonight (TUE) in OCN for that to happen, and then they'd have to fare better in two games vs Wayway this week (Wed/Fri) than OCN does in their final two games in Neepawa (Sat/Sun).
