(Former Melville Millionaires Brayden Metz (Centre) and Cody Hanson (43) lineup for the opening faceoff Tuesday night in Yorkton)
The Yorkton Terriers never led in Tuesday night's meeting of two of the SJHL's top teams, and went on to lose 5-3 to the visiting Melfort Mustangs.
It was 1-0 after one, and 3-1 after two, and 4-2 late in the third, before Melfort's Zach Johnson scored from centre ice, on an unlucky bounce (for the Terriers), that went off the glass, Warren Shymko came out to play it, only to have it take a goofy hop and find the middle of the gaping cage, making it a less-respectable 5-2. Yorkton's Clarke Breitkreuz scored the nicest goal of the night with 17 seconds left to make it a 2 goal game, on an end-to-end rush.
Before that, Jeremy Boyer and Nathan Murray scored powerplay goals for the Terriers. Boyer added an assist, while Justin Buzzeo had a pair of helpers.
Sterling Bear scored twice for Melfort, while former Melville Millionaire Brayden Metz added one for the Mustangs, which was set up by another former Millionaire Cody Hanson.
Post Game Comments With Metz/Hanson
I must admit I haven't seen La Ronge yet, and I know they've got the big line with 3 of, if not the 3 top offensive players in the SJHL... but I'd find it hard to believe that any team in the north is as deep as the Mustangs. And not just "skill" deep, but skill-and-grit deep, and their skilled guys work their tails off. Adam Wihak's playing on their fourth line, which shows how much they can spread it around. The scary thing is Regan Nabseth was a scratch, as were defensemen Scott Brkich, Brendon Wall and Brett Kipling. Brody Haygarth was playing his first game in 3 weeks, and only saw spot duty. The Terriers also had an arms-length of scratches, including Robbie Ciolfi, Keon Vick, Brenden Poncelet and Sam Rockwell. I thought AP call-up John Odgers from the Yorkton Harvest was the Hardest Working Terrier. Hit everything that moved, and didn't back down from anything.
The Terriers hold their Sportsman's Dinner this Saturday night, which is already sold out, and then welcome the Notre Dame Hounds Sunday at 6:00.

Hanson and Metz's old team, the Millionaires, picked up their second straight one-goal, home ice win over the Weyburn Red Wings.
Melville built a comfy 4-1 lead through two periods, but were forced to hang on to a 4-3 victory.
Lucas Froese, Roger Tagoona and Justin Hollinger all had a goal and an assist, while Ian McNulty scored his second goal in as many games.
It was a big win for the Millionaires, with Notre Dame pulling off a road win in Humboldt. The Mils are still 6 points up on the Hounds for the final playoff spot in the Sherwood, with 2 games in hand.

As I was pinch-hitting as the Public-Address announcer for the Terrier game, I was checking the scores on my phone, and saw that Wayway was trailing Dauphin 4-1, and Neepawa was leading the Saints 4-1, both in the second period. Neepawa still won big, but the next time I checked, the Wolverines had stormed back to tie the Kings 4-4, and went on to lose 5-4 in a shootout, picking up a key point in the standings.
Brett Gagnon allowed 4 goals on 11 shots, and Ryan Benitez stopped all 22 he faced in relief. The Wolverines out-shot the Kings 48-33... that's the second time they've out-shot Dauphin by a large margin in the last week, and came away with a one-goal loss.
Paul Vandevelde potted a hat trick for the Wolverines, while Zaine Walker added one.
Wayway loses a little groud in their playoff chase, now 5 points back of Neepawa for a potential crossover spot.
7 of Wayway's next 8 games are on home ice, and 11 of their final 16.
Their next game's on home ice this Friday against the Winnipeg Blues.
The All-Star game goes today (Wednesday) in Swan River. Forwards Paul Vandevelde and Shane Goodrunning, and defenseman Stephane Robidoux will represent the Wolverines, while Swan Valley forwards Ryan Marshall and Shelby Gray, and defenseman Clark Byczynski will suit up in the game on their home ice.
7:00 start in Swan River.

I won't be able to cover the All-Star Game (as much as I'd love to), as I've got a Prairie Junior Hockey League broadcast in Lebret between Fort Knox and Ochapowace.
I'll do my best to get some reaction over the phone for Thursday's Episode of "Inside The MJHL."

Terriers are a different team with Ciolfi in the lineup. I know one player isn't supposed to make a big differance, but he sure seems to. They need him and Vick and a strong Peters if they are to go far in the playoffs.
Paterson missing the net on a breakaway, Mercer's phantom call leading to Aschim's goal a few seconds later and the bounce of the glass for a freak goal.
Thats where the L comes from.
Agree, it just wasn't the Terriers night!!!
Here we go again...there is always the cynical analyzers like anonymous above who have nothing else to do but give their two-cents worth; like who didn't do this, who didn't do that and this never happened. Slap on a pair of skates buddy and get you sorry butt out off the bleachers and see if you can do any better!
Go Terriers Go!
I can almost guarantee that none of the anonymous people above have ever coached a game of hockey in their lives. I just laugh when I am at a Terrier game how many "coaches" there are in the stands. As a scout for a WHL team I get a good chuckle at Yorkton games.
as paying fans they are entitled to their opinions and comments. Atleast they paid their way into the game and are supporting the team. Did you pay to get into game or flash your scout card?
of course gotta flash the scout card! Always with me! Do you have one???
Ha! Ha! Supporting the team? More like "trashing the team"! With fans like you, one or two less of you at the game wouldn't hurt!
I'm with the WHL scout, he's right on! Furthermore, he's there promoting the players, even if he gets in for free!
Go Terriers Go!
Its not "trashing the team" when you are commenting on how they ended up losing.
Those 3 plays were intrumental in the Mustangs win. Like it or not, its true.
And please feel free to point out where I supposedly trashed the team simply by pointing out 3 key plays that had a big hand in deciding the outcome.
Yes, Go Terriers Go! But why not try and be unbiased and actually WATCH the game, not just sit at the game and "watch"
By the way, I haven't missed a game this season, own a season ticket and have only missed 4 or 5 games the past 3 seasons...
And 4th anonymous, by all means come visit me at section D, row 5 seat 8.
For the guy who claims his hockey brilliance because he's got a scout card, explain to me who is trashing the Terriers. I don't see one comment on here trashing anybody. I'm just a regular fan though, so I'm probably missing something.
I think the Terriers have a tonne of diehard fans and that is why we sometimes seem to be too critical. I know many times as I sit in the stands, I think I could do things better, but in reality I know its not true.
Hopefully these boys jell quickly and heal quickly because there is a load of talent on this team now, and when they click on and off the ice look out, Melfort is playing unreal all those commenting must have realized that, I agree the terriers did not get the best luck last night and there was definatly some wierd goals scored, as for yelling or voicing opinions go ahead but some of you do sound like you have never played the game in your life
