Monday Headlines

- The Wayway Wolverines were hoping for a favour from the Dauphin Kings and didn't get one. The Kings lost 4-1 in Neepawa, which gets the Natives back to 4 points up on Wayway for the final playoff spot. Still a good weekend for the Wolverines, who were 6 points back and had played one more game than Neepawa before the weekend. Now they're 4 back, and are even in games played. Every team in the Sherwood, except Portage, has played 45 games, with 17 left.

- Brayden Metz scored his 19th of the year helping Melfort shade Notre Dame 3-2 in yesterday's only SJHL game. That leaves Notre Dame 6 points back of Melville for the final playoff spot in the Sherwood. Are you going to FAA tomorrow to see Metz/Hanson and the Mustangs take on the Terriers? Can't wait for that one!

- Levi Cable, the only player named (so far) in the Metz/Hanson trades going to Melville in return, had 2g-2a for the Yorkton Harvest in their 8-0 romp over the Saskatoon Blazers last night. Big win for the Harvest who lost to P.A. and the S'toon Contacts Fri/Sat. Kale Thomson made 31 saves in the shutout. Cable leads the Harvest with 23g-20a-43p in 33 games as a 16-year-old, and his WHL rights belong to the Kootenay Ice, who, traded a pile of prospects to the Swift Current Broncos to land Cody Eakin. Perhaps Cable has a good shot at cracking the Ice next season?

- Team South beat Team North 4-2 in yesterday's Prairie Junior Hockey League All-Star Game in Waldheim. Jordan Fenwick (Fort Knox) scored one for the South, while Logan Calanchie (Fort Knox), Devin Laurent (Ochapowace) and Jeremy Johnson (Ochapowace) had assists. Goalie stats aren't available, but Nathan Montgrand (Fort Knox) and Austin Vargo (Ochapowace) were both on the roster. Fort Knox visits Ochap this Wednesday in Lebret... we'll have the action on GX94.

- The twelve team field for the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts has been determined with the conclusion of the Women's Northern and Southern Playdowns Sunday. From the Southern Playdowns, Regina's Michelle Englot defeated Mandy Selzer 10-2 in the "A" final in Assiniboia. Cindy Ricci advanced from the "B" event with a 6-4 win over Selzer. Selzer finally made it out by winning a "C" final over Chelsey Peterson, 13-4. Also advancing from the "C" was Samantha Yachiw beating Susan Lang, 12-7. Qualifying from the Northerns were Saskatoon's Patty Hersikorn, Robyn Silvernagle, Darlene Gillies and Debbie Folk. The Men's Northerns & Southern Tankards start Thursday. Yorkton's Terry Marteniuk will take part in Northerns.
