Peters Wins Goalie Duel

A game I was really wishing I could see, was Saturday night's Yorkton Terrier-Melfort Mustangs showdown at the SJHL Showcase in Weyburn.

Yorkton's Devin Peters and Melfort's Charles Corsi are the top goalies statistically in their respective conferences, and have the best numbers in the entire league.

On this night, it was Peters earning his league-high 17th win, stopping 32/33 shots in a 3-1 win over the Mustangs.

As a team, the win was the Terriers' 21st of the year, and the line of Clarke Breitkreuz (1g-1a) Robbie Ciolfi (2a) and Brent Struble (2a) combined for 6 points.

Also scoring were Brenden Poncelet and Davis Vandane.

Catch GX94's double header on Sunday afternoon, when the Terriers meet Flin Flon at 2:00, and the Melville Millionaires skate with Melfort at 5:00.

============

The Wayway Wolverines trailed 2-0, but scored five third period goals, including 2 from newcomer Brett Lafond, in his first MJHL game, in a 7-3 triumph in Neepawa.

Zaine Walker also scored a pair, and an assist, while Curtis Veitch, Paul Vandevelde and Shane Goodrunning added singles.

The third period outburst was highlighted by two goals 13 seconds apart, and three in a span of 36 seconds.

Brett Gagnon played goal, stopping 19/22 shots. He was backed up by David Dempster, which would indicate newcomer Ryan Benitez hasn't joined the club yet (unless there was an online scoring error), and that Riley Feser would be the odd man out.

I've yet to speak with Coach Barry Butler about the situation however.

Great game to watch. Wolverines played a energetic together game with many good plays. Veitch should also have been credited with an assist on the first Walker goal as the play went from Duda, to Veitch, to Howie and then Walker. Way to go.

Very good game. Walker, Veitch and Howie line was hard working and outstanding. Played well together.

Hi Craig;
We were at the game in Neepawa - it was definately Ryan dressed in the #29 jersey - not David.
It was a great game for us Wayway fans in the stands!
Take care.

Hope the new addition of Lafond helps the team. Good scoring punch added to team.
