Major Junior Camp Updates

A handful of local players are at Western Hockey League camps... and I'll do my best to find out how they're doing.

Yorkton Terriers
D Austin Bourhis (Prince Albert)
G Warren Shymko (Portland)
D John Niebrandt (Kootenay)
F Clarke Breitkreuz (Vancouver)
D Davis Vandane
F Robbie Ciolfi (Chilliwack)
*Ciolfi's rights were traded to Yorkton from Drayton Valley (AJHL) at last year's trade deadline.

Update on Bourhis from the Raiders' Intra-Squad game on Sunday.

Newcomer Austin Bourhis squared up with Tyler Yaworski at centre ice to provide the first fight in the game.

Suprised? I'm not. Austin's a physical D-man who can also add some offense, and will drop the mitts a lot if it means making the team. I think of the 5 Terriers away at camps, Bourhis has the best chance of staying in the 'Dub. Mainly, because of his age, and because the Raiders acquired him in a pretty big trade over the summer.

Update on Shymko

In goal, 15 year old Brendan Burke played the first half and gave up four goals, but made some strong saves as well. In the second half, 18 year old Warren Shymko allowed three goals while perserving the victory with some solid play in the final five minutes.

Melville Millionaires
G Zach Rakochy

Rakochy is one of two 1993-born goalies on the main camp roster. There is also one '92, one '91, and two '90's. The 20-year-olds are former ND Hound Kramer Barnstable and former Humboldt prospect Darcy Kuemper. Odds are the Rebels will keep one 20-year-old, while the 4 younger guys would battle for the backup gig. Since Rakochy hasn't played in a WHL game, and still has his NCAA rights, Mils' Coach Jamie Fiesel says the Rebels have told him that Zach won't play in a Pre-Season game unless they REALLY feel he's got a shot, and that Zach is committed to the WHL route.

Swan Valley Stampeders
D Evan Morden (Everett)
G Jason Argue (Kelowna)

Wayway Wolverines
D Stephane Robidoux (Portland)
D Zach Sweet (Prince George)
F Justin Christian (Prince Albert)

Update on Robidoux

The final goal was scored on a nice finish by Johansen in tight, set up by 19 year old d-man Stephane Robidoux (who saw some time with Brandon the past couple of years) and Leier.
