RBC Update... All Spots Determined Tonight

Only one of the 5 spots in the RBC Cup is yet to be decided, and it'll be known tonight (SUN).

The defending RBC Champion Vernon Vipers held a 2-1 series lead after the first 3 games of the Doyle Cup (Alberta vs BC) against the Spruce Grove Saints.

The final (if necessary) 4 games shifted to Vernon, and the Vipers won Game 4, taking a big 3-1 series lead, but Spruce Grove stayed around, winning Game Five 3-1, and Game Six 3-2, forcing a 7th and deciding game tonight.

Game time is 8:00 SK Time, 9:00pm in Manitoba.

You can listen to Vernon's feed, at http://www.1075kiss.com/

The winner will be the Pacific Rep, and open up against the host Dauphin Kings this Saturday night.

-------------

The East Rep will be the Brockville Braves. Brockville hosted the Fred Page Cup, and beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings 5-1 in today's final to advance. The Braves are owned, managed, and coached, by former NHL Defenseman Todd Gill.

Brockville went 52-8-1-1 this season, in the Central Junior Hockey League in Ontario.

-------------

The Oakville Blades are the Central Reps. They beat the Fort William North Stars in yesterday's (SAT) final of the Dudley Hewitt Cup, by a 2-1 score. Former Dauphin King Dustin Fummerton plays for Fort William, and was one goal away from coming back to face his former team. Former Neepawa Native Eli Halcrow also played for the North Stars.

Oakville will play in the first game of the tournament Saturday afternoon against the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Interesting that CBC colour analyst Craig Simpson made reference that his son was playing for the St. Albert Saints on Sunday's telecast. Oh well, dad will have to stick to the NHL and not head out to the Ukrainian capital of Manitoba. Maybe Darren Dutchyshyn will head back there for the RBC Cup.

yeah simpson's kid is only 16, and a Dman, and i'm told he's a shoe-in for the nhl draft. not sure if he'll be lured to the whl next year or if he plans to stick to the college route.
