La Ronge Wins 2010 Credit Union Cup

Liam Brennan scored all three La Ronge Ice Wolves' goals, including the winner early in overtime an La Ronge won their first SJHL Championship in team history, with a 3-2 (OT) win in Game 6 over the Yorkton Terriers.

Brennan opened the scoring in the second period, while the Ice Wolves were on a 2-man disadvantage.

He made it 2-0 with under 6 minutes left, but just when it looked like that might be the final nail, the Terriers once again battled back.

26 seconds later, Cody Zubko undressed a La Ronge defenseman on a 2-on-2 rush, found Adam Moar, who redirected it off the post, before banging in his own rebound. Then, with Devin Peters on the bench, Clark Byczynski eluded two shot blockers, found his defense partner Drew McDermott, who wristed one top shelf for a 2-2 tie.

Brennan's winner came after Devin Peters was forced to stop two breakaways from Leo Lecoursiere and Doug Lindensmith.

I'll post much more tomorrow, including lots of audio and some pics, but just want to thank Trent Cassan and the Terrier organization for a heck of a season, it was so much fun to cover and be a small part of it all at home and on the road.

Forwards Cody Zubko, Kevin Stringfellow, Jordan Menke, Nick Dietrich, Troy Smukowich, Adam Moar, Ryan Griffiths and Kyle Miller all wrapped up their junior careers, and were all big parts of the Terriers shocking the rest of the province, and winning a Sherwood Conference Championship in 2010.

Talk about heartbreak city. I know how bad Zubko wanted to win it in his last year, can't imagine how he feels right now. Heck of a run for the boys though. Congrats to LaRonge.

Yes they all would have loved the win especially the 20 year olds, Terriers you did have an incredible playoff run from the goaltending out, you should be proud and absorb the accomplishment. Like all teams by the end you have many injuries and are very tired, but you kept battling through and having big wins, Congrats to Trent and Danny and I do not think we should forget to thank Eddy, he did play a big part in finding the talent this team has and building determination in the boys, after the coaching change Trent was able to get everything out of the boys that Eddy had lost so great job from both

Great call last night Craig. I know what it's like to cover a team on a run like this and lose in game seven of the championship but you won't soon forget this. Keep the audio to remember all those great moments. You will play them over and over in the years to come and think back to what a great time it was. congrats man and I wish you could have made it to the RBC.
