Ice Wolves Take Game 3 in OT

The Yorkton Terriers overcame the worst 40 second span of hockey anyone could ask for, but went on to lose 4-3 in overtime to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. La Ronge now leads the Best-of-Seven SJHL Final 2-1, after dropping the series opener.

That 40 second span early in the first period saw the Terriers surrender three La Ronge goals, by Ben Findlay, Dan Conacher and Aaron Decorby.

Blaine Tendler got the Terriers a little momentum with a 5-on-3 goal late in the first period, and it was 3-1 after one. Rylan McDonell equalled his regular season total with his 9th goal of the playoffs midway through the second, and Troy Smukowich tied it with his league-leading 14th of the playoffs early in the third, and that's how regulation would end.

La Ronge hit a handful of posts in Game 3, including two about 5 seconds apart early in the third while leading 3-2, and Decorby hit another early in overtime. For a stretch of about 2 full minutes, the Ice Wolves came dangerously close, and the game maybe should have been over before it actually was. In any case, Aaron Enns ended it at 7:05 of extra time, giving the Wolves the 2-1 series edge.

Joel Danyluk got the win once again, this time making 35/38 saves. Devin Peters stopped 20/24 in the loss, and in his defense had no hope on the first three goals. The first one by Findlay was a perfectly placed slap shot through traffic, the other two were giveaways and he was hung out to dry.

La Ronge was 1/5 on the PP, Yorkton was 1/7, and had two chances in the third period with the PP when it was 3-3, while Dustin Stevenson was in the box both times, and Colton MacPherson was serving a 10 minute misconduct. The Ice Wolves were also without D Mike Alexander (injured) in Game 3, so their top three defensemen were off the ice for those PP situations and they couldn't get one by the former Terrier Danyluk.

- Speaking of Joel, I wanna give a big THUMBS DOWN to the fans chirping, swearing, and giving him the finger as he left the ice. Yeah, he was pumped he won the game, who wouldn't be? I've been around hundreds of Junior hockey players in five years and if Joel's not at the top of the list when it comes to nice kids, he's top 3 for sure (but probably tops!)

Yes, I'm hoping for the Terriers here, but stuff like that makes me sick... represent your favourite team better than that!

- Great touch by the Terriers, naming Luke Boechler their seventh man, and having him line up on their blueline for the anthem. What an inspiration that young man's been!

- And, this is the first time all post season long the Terriers have been trailing in a series. I said on the Post Game tonight it's also the first time they've been trailing a series, but of course they were down 1-0 to Melville in the Survivor Series, AND 1-0 to Kindersley in the Conference Final... so first time they've trailed this deep into a series. In any case, this is another true test of what the Terriers are made of, and we'll find out in Wednesday night's Game 4.

7:00 / 7:30 on GX94.

The Terriers will pull it out Wed night there's no doubt in my mind. Joel has been the difference in the series, but I also think he likes attention and puts on quite the show. Craig you coming with us on the bus Friday.

sure he's a nice kid craig, but it shows no class when you tip your net after you win the game, then start throwing the moorings. Joel all night, was slashing terriers. Infact one of the goaltender interference calls, the terrier looked like he was pushed. Anyways it was a hard fought game both ends of the ice. Looking forward to wednesday's game.

Go Terriers

Gary: I'll be on the Terrier bus Thursday... rather spread it out over 2 days!

Terrier Fan: I honestly didn't see what Joel did at his end of the rink first... I was following the goal/celebration at the other end. Figured he must have done SOMETHING (and it sounds like it interesting, but this is the same guy who collects fish! haha). Anyway, a lot of emotion, and the players should settle that on the ice, not fans in the stands.

So why was there not any fish thrown on the ice tonight?

i think they bring the fish on the road for good luck, but don't give them to the fans to throw.

First off, they wouldn't get them back, and, if caught, the fans might get the boot if they got caught in yorkton. can't get away with that in every rink!

He acts nice when being interviewed, but the kis has alot od growing up to do,why does he have ill feelings toward terriers,Eddy was the one that traded him not the team. Why didn't he play good when he was with terriers.

Danyluk had a good two-hander on one of the Yorkton players in front of the net in the third period there. The tipped net was another thing. He's probably having the time of his life sticking it to his former team.

Joel is still friends with a lot of the Terriers. I doubt he has ill feelings towards any of them. Its a game of hockey and those are the things you do to your opponents... a hack on the leg isn't going to kill anyone, its just getting under their skin. Every time I have seen Joel come up with a big win he always throws the net around in celebration. I can't believe you Terrier fans bashing him and calling him classless or whatever and throwing garbage at him on the ice. Give your heads a shake Terrier fans... who's the classless ones? I can't wait to see another stellar performance by Danyluk tonight. Go IceWolves!

You are not on the ice hearing what he saying to the players it is pretty horrific langage.Show me where he is getting bashed. If he is getting bashed, its just hockey as you stated and things you do to your opponenet, its ok for Joel to do it and not the terriers or fans.Fans always gets on the other teams goalies, thats hockey as you keep posting. Why are yu so worried about it, just have to keep bashing Terriers as you have so much time on your hands being a mils fan.
