Portage Prolongs Series With Stamps

Andrew Wiebe scored twice, and Jordan Washburn made 32 saves in his first start of the series, and the Portage Terriers beat the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-1 on Thursday, forcing a Game 5 back in Portage on Saturday (7:15 / 7:30 on GX94).

Shaq Merasty scored first for the Terriers, while Tanner Waldvogel sealed it with an empty net goal in the final minute.

Ryan Marshall scored Swan Valley's only goal, his second of the series. Jayme Janzen made 26/29 saves.

The Stamps out-shot Portage 12-5 in the first period, and came out of it scoreless. The Terriers out-shot Swan 16-6 in the 2nd and came away with a 2-1 lead.

Good news is, the Stampeders still have three cracks at moving on, and I don't think anyone expected a sweep either way before the series started.

Again, Game 5 Saturday, and all the action's on GX94.

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Saints are the first team in the MJHL to advance to Round 2, with a 4-3 (OT) over the Winnipeg South Blues, completing the sweep.

Craig Simchuk scored the overtime winner at 10:55.
