Catching Up...

Some rapid fire thoughts and info after my week off....

Paul Bonar, SV Stampders
Yes he's in Everett, but Stamps' GM Guy Vestby says he'll miss no more than three games with the Stamps. Although the Stampeders will be without their other top defenseman, Brent Wilson, who suffered an injury playing rec over the holidays.

Clarke Breitkreuz, Yorkton Terriers
Also back in the Western League, with the Prince George Cougars. The Terriers had a tough time scoring leading up to the Christmas break, and Breitkreuz was admittedly slumping himself, but this still hurts the Terriers' offense no question. Former Terrier G Joel Danyluk's also with the Regina Pats for the time being.

Rumours, rumours, rumours
Jamie Fiesel told me last week about a possible 3-way deal involving the Millionaires, La Ronge and the Winnipeg Saints. Nothing's official yet so I won't name names.

Mac's Tournament
The Yorkton Harvest are 3-and-0 after three close games at the Mac's. The Harvest play Okanagan this morning in Calgary before hopefully advancing to the playoffs.

U-17's
Jamie Fiesel, Zach Rakochy, Evan Morden, Jens Meilleur and the rest of Team West fell 4-2 to Quebec at the Under-17's in Timmins, ON yesterday. Rakochy played goal and made 35/39 saves.

World Juniors
The 10 team tournament is about 4, maybe 6 teams TOO MANY! I love watching Canada win, but they've out-scored their three opponents 30-2 so far. At least the games will start to matter now, and we shouldn't see another blowout the rest of the way. As usual, Canada will meet the USA New Years Eve in a battle for first place, and a chance to get a bye to the semis. CAN beat SVK 8-2 last night, Taylor Hall scored 3.

On the air
Our next broadcast is Friday when Yorkton's in Melville for their annual New Years Day meeting. It's a 7:30 start this year, not the 2:00 it often is for NYD... probably because it falls on a Friday.
