How 'Bout the Harvest?

Chasing around four Junior 'A' teams during the winter, I'll be the first to admit the Yorkton "AAA" Midget Harvest don't get near the coverage they deserve. Either I'm gone for another game when they're at home, or they're home on like a Thursday, which is one of my few "quiet" days during the week and I just crash at home.

But through 6 games, the Harvest are making some serious noise, tops in the SMAAAHL, and without a regulation loss, with 4 wins, a tie, and an overtime loss, good for 10 points.

They had a couple close games with the Saskatoon Blazers at home over the weekend, coming away with a win and a tie.

Goaltenders Kale Thomson and Austin Vargo are both among the league leaders, while Tayler Thompson and Riley Storozuk are 1-2 in league scoring. Thompson has points in all 6 games so far, and has a league-high 8g-5a-13p. Storozuk had 3-7-10.

With games on the air just Wednesday and Friday this week, I'll try to get to their next home action Thursday when they host the Regina Pat Canadians at 8:00.

The Harvest' schedule this season is weird to say the least, starting with 8 straight games at home, and at one point playing 10 in a row away from home.

Here's their schedule breakdown.

8-straight @ home
6-straight on the road
4-straight @ home
4-straight on the road
2-straight @ home
2- straight on the road
6-straight @ home
10-straight on the road
2-straight @ home

But with the Terriers off until Friday when they host Melville, if you're looking for some good hockey in Yorkton in the meantime, certainly check out the Harvest, they're off to their best start in a long time.

I'm very guilty of not going to Harvest games. With the Terriers and everything else going on, they seem to be always last on my sports scope.

I have enjoyed the games I have been in the past and maybe this year I might go out of my way to catch a few games this year.
