I've gotta give a quick shout out to MJHL Coach of the Year Doug Hedley of the OCN Blizzard. Hedder was the first coach I worked with as a radio guy in 2005-06 in Dauphin when I was a Capital-G, Capital-H GREEN HORN. He was patient with me, occassionally shot back after a stupid question, which I think made me better. That season though, the Kings saw a 3-1 series lead slip away in the Sherwood Final against a Drew Schoeneck-led OCN squad, as the Blizzard won in 7. Marlin Murray was Doug's Assistant in Dauphin back then, and now he's the Head Coach, going up against Hedley and the Blizzard in Round One of the 2008-09 playoffs... that's gonna be a GREAT series. I'm expecting 6 or 7 games, and going either way. The winner meets the winner of the Portage/Wayway series. Congrats, Doug!

Here's a release from the Yorkton Terriers.
THE YORKTON TERRIERS ARE INVITING EVERYONE TO JOIN THEM FOR A NOON PEP RALLY TOMORROW (WED) AT THE ARMY & NAVY ON BROADWAY STREET.
THERE WILL BE A PEROGY AND SAUSAGE LUNCH FOR ONLY $3.
ALL THE PLAYERS, COACHES AND EXECUTIVE ALONG WITH MAYOR CHRIS WYATT WILL BE INATTENDANCE.
IT'S A CHANCE FOR FANS TO WISH THE TERRIERS WELL AS THEY BEGIN THEIR SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFF SERIES FRIDAY NIGHT IN MELVILLE.

Doing a quick scan of the broadcast schedule, I think the last time I had 3 straight weeknights with no games, aside from the Christmas break, was mid-October. And, I've got Tue-Wed-Thu off (as far as games go) to rest the ol' vocal chords and prep like a crazy man. I have no excuse for NOT knowing these matchups inside and out now! The plan is to only spend as much time at work as I have to, and taking the laptop home to do my game prep. I figure that'll feel more leisurely. As of last night, I did 63 games of play-by-play, I think it worked out to 55 Junior 'A', 5 Junior 'B', 1 Senior and 2 Dairy Queen Minor Hockey Broadcasts. When dates allow, we'll also be mixing in some Fort Knox playoff games with the broadcast sked, and probably some Senior Playoffs too.
Expect some Yorkton/Melville and Wayway/Portage series previews in the next couple days.
