Rookie Brad McDonald had his MJHL coming out party with a 4 goal performance, leading the Swan Valley Stampeders to a 5-2 victory over the OCN Blizzard on the road. McDonald opened the scoring in the first, added another in the second, and 2 more in the third, including the empty netter to seal it, giving him 5 goals on the season. Local product Darcy Riddell had the Stampeders' other goal.
If McDonald was the offensive star, Chris Ward was just as valuable at the other end, making 39 saves, several of the spectacular variety, on 41 Blizzard shots. He was beaten by Jordan Sinclair in the first period and Cody Ballard in the third.
All 7 goals in the game were scored even-strength. The Blizzard are now 0-for-21 on the powerplay against the Stampeders this season, while the Stamps maintain the league's top penalty kill of 85.5%.
The season series between the Stampeders and Blizzard is now even at 2-2. The Stamps have now won 5 of their last 6 to improve to 9-12-2-1, 3 points back of OCN for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Sherwood.
