Yeah, we never got on the air tonight.
Nothing ticks a radio guy off more than that.
Complications with phone lines... tried 6 phone jacks in the booth and 2 in the mezzanine level and couldn't get a dial tone.
So, I did colour with Randy Atkinson on Access 7 and called in reports on my cell phone during intermissions.
I REALLY wish I could have been on the air because it was a GREAT game.
Melville scored 2 third period goals to come from behind and beat Yorkton 4-3.
Three players got their first SJHL goals in this game. Melville's Logan Herauf and Yorkton's Kurtis Decker in the first period, and the game winning goal in the third, and probably the nicest goal I've seen this year, by Michael Rogoschewsky. Rogy made an inside-outside, one-handed move on the Terrier defenseman before wiring a slapshot over the glove of Jordan Barry.
The Terriers had a flurry of chances late in the game with the goalie out and ended up with a 6-on-4 powerplay couldn't couldn't find the tying goal.
Aside from the 3 first time goal scorers, Levi Lind and Kale Dolinski scored for Melville (6-1-0-1), while Kevin Stringfellow and Cody Zubko found net net for the Terriers (6-4-0-2).
Kindersley lost to Weyburn tonight, which REALLY tightens up the Sherwood. The points in the standings go 16-14-13-12-12-8. Melville's got the best winning percentage at .812% but sit third, having played just 8 games compared to Yorkton (12) and Kindersley (11).
All indications say the Yorkton/Melville 8 game season series will be tight again this year.
Game 2 goes tonight (SAT) at the Stadium.
