First MJHL broadcast of the season tonight... with the Swan Valley Stampeders travelling to Dauphin to meet the Kings.
Dauphin won the start of the home-and-home 4-1 in Swan on Wednesday, and the Kings are 2-and-1 after starting the season with 3 straight games away from Credit Union Place.
GAME NOTES
- Myles Stevens makes his season debut for the Stampeders tonight. Stevens (62-26-47-73 in 07-08) served a 2-game suspension to start the season after a match penalty in Portage in Game 7 of last year's playoffs. That'll help a Stampeder offense that's only scored 3 goals in 2 games.
- Making their Stampeder debuts tonight, at least most likely, are newly acquired 1988 F Vincein Scott and 1990 F Galen Matyjanka. The pair were traded by the Estevan Bruins earlier this week in exchange for 1989 D Ethan Gardner. Scott's a physical enforcer type forward. Matyjanka's a speedy young winger who had nearly a point-per-game with Wainright in Alberta "AAA" Midget last season.
- To me, Dauphin looks SCARY GOOD. They were already looking decent with maybe the best blue line in the league returning (Falloon, Shamanski, et all), and arguably the league's top tender in Adrian Rubeniuk. Scoring would have been fine with Luke Stokotelny, Shane Luke and Cam McGeough, and NOW... they've since added Karl Kelner, Dustyn Clegg and saw the return of Richard Jodoin. All the aforementioned forwards are 20-year-olds except Luke (18)... they're stacked. I don't know much about this Graham Fast character... but it looks like he can put up digits. Dauphin also had a 2-goal game out of Sean Ouelette to start the season. They've got all kinds of depth up front.
- Tonight should feature a goaltending matchup as good as any in the league. Rubeniuk for the Kings, and 19-year-old Chris Ward for the Stampeders. I can't confirm the two are starting, but I am saying they might be interchangeable as 1-2 in the league.
7:20 Pre Game Show, 7:30 Play by Play (MB Time) from Credit Union Place on GX94.

SJHL- Nipawin @ Yorkton
Four teams in the SJHL got off to 2-and-0 starts, the Yorkton Terriers were one of them. Four teams started the season with 2 or more losses... the Nipawin Hawks were one. The now 1-and-2 Hawks come to Farrell Agencies Arena tonight at 7:30 to battle the Terriers. Yorkton welcomes back 1990 D Kurtis Decker back to the lineup after he was re-assigned by the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings this week. With the Terriers also playing in Estevan tomorrow, we'll have to wait and see if G Devin Peters will start one of the two games. G Jordan Barry has been solid so far, allowing just 3 goals in 2 games, stopping 62 of 65 shots (.954%).
