Vacation Winding Down/Mils Celebrate

I made the trip to Melville last night for the Sportsman's Dinner, part of Melville's 100th Anniversary of Hockey.  I booked holidays for the first week of July because the week (Mon-Fri) was fairly light for local sports, then I kicked myself when I remembered the Mils' Alumni weekend was this Fri-Sun, so I had no problem traveling out there (from Regina, where I spent most of the weekend), I was treated good as always, and gave back by purchasing a Mils' jersey, which can go right by the Terriers' one I picked up at their year-end banquet.

Brian Propp was a phenomenal speaker (he IS an NHL broadcaster now, so that explains it!), and I had a chance to get an interview with him, and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brett Clark, and a few others.  I'll be running "100 years of Memories" features during the second intermissions of Millionaire broadcasts this season which I'm really looking forward to, got some great stuff from those fellas last night.

Also great to see a TON of current players and recent Mils' grads come out.  Most of them were assigned to work in the Mils' bench, which was converted into a great place to keep the beers cold, and the boys got to work behind the bar.  Off the top of my head, I bumped into Scott Hennings, Derek Edwards, Shane Stanicky, Austin Krahenbil, Jordan Reeve, Tyson Melnychuk, Jarret Waldbauer, Jeremie Houde, Michael Jordan, Bret Haacke... I hope I'm not missing anybody.  Several other recent grads who pre-date my time at GX were there too, including former league MVP goaltender Anthony Heuer, who was named to the modern-day Millionaires' All-Star team.  Coach Jamie Fiesel and Neil Lamberty were there obviously, along with former coaches like Don Chesney and Gerry James.  Mils' Alumnus and Melville native Kevin Karius (now with Global TV in Edmonton) did a masterful job as M.C.  I meant to say hello to him, but never got the chance as I was trying to chase down a few interviews with the guest speakers.  Come to think of it, Kevin would make a great guest for an intermission this season, might have to dial him up in the near future.

I'm back to work on Tuesday, but I'm thinking of heading back to Yorkton tonight, so I can have a quiet full Monday at home, do a little house cleaning, etc.  And that way I can go to the station tonight so we can run some Mils' stories Monday AM.
