Terriers, Other SJHLers Tough To Beat

T.G.F.F. = Thank Goodness For Facebook. With websites hard to come by, Yorkton Terrier forward Cody Zubko has kept me up to date as to how their Northern Connecticut Wings are doing by "writing on my wall." The Wings, coached by former Terrier Devin Rask, and made up of 12 SJHLers, including Zubko, Derek Serdachny, Bryan Hull and Greg Coburn from Yorkton won their first tournament pretty easily a couple weeks ago, and then won a nail-biter of a final this past weekend to win yet another tourney. I had a quick chat with Cody this morning.
CS: You're 2-for-2 in tournaments down in Connecticut, talk about the competition you had to get through.

Cody Zubko: Our first tournament was our home tournament, everyone was getting used to everyone. We basically played the SJ style of hockey, and we pretty much dominated our first tournament, beating teams 10-1, 14-1. Champlain (their development team) was tougher in the final, we ended up beating them 5-2. The second tournament was a lot tougher, there were a lot of guys from college playing, and major junior. But we've got a great group of guys, we've come together, played hard, and it worked out for the best.

CS: Talk about the team you beat in the final. They had some NHL draft picks you were saying?

CZ: Yeah, Champlain (their main club) had 4 or 5 NHL draft picks, and a goalie who played some games in the AHL. They were a really good team, they actually beat us 7-1 in round robin but we met them again in the final and beat them 1-0, so that was a really big accomplishment for us.

CS: So one more tournament and it's a big one, the Chowder Cup. When's that?

CZ: We head out to Boston tomorrow (WED). We play Thursday morning at 7:00 in the morning, that's our first game. There's about 80 teams in the tournament, so it should be a great experience.
