Swan Valley's loss is the Bombers' gain.
The Flin Flon Bombers have announced the signing of 1990-born forward Kyle Stephansson for the upcoming season. The Winnipeg native was just under a point-per-game (37-19-17-36) with the Norman North Stars of the Manitoba "AAA" Midget ranks last season.
Kyle travelled with the Stampeders during Swan's 7-game playoff series against the eventual league-champion Portage Terriers last season, and I had him on during the first intermission in Game 6. He was always a friendly kid to talk to. He said he was very excited about joining the Stamps full-time this season, and was happy to be traded there from the Winnipeg South Blues at the time. But, things change in hockey, and he'll develop into a fine player in Flin Flon and I'll certainly look forward to watching him when the Bombers make their Yorkton/Melville trips.
Stephansson came to the Stampeders along with goaltender Chris Ward in exchange for a list player at last year's deadline. Ward alone made it a steal of a deal for Swan, but I know they were hoping to see Kyle fit in as well. One positive for this radio guy... I won't have to deal with the names Kyle Severson and Kyle Stephansson on the same team. I was dreading the thoughts of a line made up of Stevens/Severson/Stephansson. All the best Kyle!
