Jordan Herbison tossed a complete game shutout in Yorkton's 2-0 win over first place Regina, and thanks to Weyburn's loss in Melville, the Cardinals have locked up third in the East Division, and the 4th and final playoff seed.
Herbison went 9 strong, walking just 2 batters, struck out 7, gave up only 5 hits and no runs.
The performance earned the Brockville, ON native an interview after the game.
CS: Well, anytime you throw a complete game shutout it's gotta feel good.
Herbison: Yeah definitely. I remember last year we were in a similar position, last game of the year against Melville and I took a shutout into the 9th inning and let it slip away, so I made sure I got this one.
CS: Were you feelin' it? Only 2 walks and 5 hits against, not too far away from perfect.
JH: I felt good today when I came to the ball park. I don't know, it's something about the end of the year, I just feel my focus is a little bit better. We needed to win this game, I just tried to throw strikes and let the defense do the work.
CS: With so few pitchers left (7), is it important to throw a complete game to rest your bullpen?
JH: Every once in a while, especially with so many games in a row like we've played. Like I said, I trusted the guys behind me and they made the plays, it made my job easy.
CS: Do you think you're peaking at the right time, yourself and the team, you've won 2 straight and the regular season ends tomorrow (TUE).
JH: Definitely. These last few games have been playoff games, we needed to win to make the playoffs. We're playing well going into the playoffs and we want to keep it rolling the next few days. Looks like we're playing Swift in the first round, so we want to just keep going.
