Rider-Nation got some good news today, with General Manager Eric Tillman signing a contract extension. The club added another year on Tillman's three year deal... keeping him here until at least 2010. But the contract has also been restructured to continually role forward past 2010 based on the teams performance and success. Tillman says the deal works for both parties.
"The way the contract's structured speaks to the mindset of the organization. Winning a championship doesn't mean we sit on the laurels. The way it's structured puts the owness on us to continue to strive for excellence at the highest level, and we want that."
Tillman says the decision to stay was easy.
"I'm a 50-year-old kid who gets to work in a league that I love in a place that football matters so much, where what you do has such an impact on the province, and to work with so many good people. At every level, this organization is committed to excellence."
Tillman says it was a family decision in the end.
"(My wife) Francine had never been to Saskatchewan. Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and she was very, very supportive. Now, she's Saskatchewan's biggest fan. Infact it's been whispered in my ear once 'if you take me back to Toronto I'm gonna kill you (laughs)."
Tillman was named Riders G-M in 2006 after Roy Shivers was let go.
