Good Luck, Carns!

Here's a video of Rob reading his farewell poem, courtesy the Moose Jaw Times-Herald Website.

Well, this is obviously public knowledge now, so I should be able to post this without any trouble.

The radio world lost a GREAT guy this week.

Nobody died. But my old boss, Rob Carnie worked his last day at 800 CHAB Moose Jaw Tuesday, having accepted a position with the Provincial Government in Regina.

Carns worked over 20 years in the "biz", mostly in Moose Jaw, but got his start in North Battleford. He was the Voice of the Moose Jaw Warriors for 14 seasons, and the first guy I REALLY listened to growing up, and you could probably say one of the reasons I got into radio.

He was different than everyone else, he had fun, and let everyone know.
No one has ever or will ever say "SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES" quite like him. Or:
"Hey diddle diddle, it's Hinz up the middle."
"Jamie Lundmark! P-P-P-POWERPLAY goal."
"The red light is on, the fans in a rage, the little black disk is in the Tigers' cage!"
Not to mention his calls of fights.

Rob hired me in August '06 to do morning sports and colour for the Warriors and the Miller Express ball team with current play-by-play man James Gallo. I left in October '07, not because I was unhappy there, but I had a chance to come to GX in Yorkton, and do play-by-play for 60+ games a season, similar to a WHL-type schedule.

As Ron Burgundy would say, Rob's a big deal. People know him. I told Randy Atkinson at work, who called Saskatoon Blades games while Rob did the Warriors, that he was leaving, and 2 other people in the room were like 'What?!'

Moose Jaw's 4-person newsroom is smaller than most bathrooms, so everyone BETTER get along, and I know we all did when I was there. I worked about 2 feet away from Carns, and I don't know how we got as much work done as we did with the amount of fun we had and the jokes that flew around, but we did. There's not a better guy to learn from, that's for sure. I'll never forget:

"Local, Local, Local"
"Sports is fun. Smile a little."
"Steiner, when you don't get these local names right, your credibility goes right out the ****in' window."

I called Rob on the weekend to get the scoop, and he's excited about his new challenge. I knew it was safe to post this when I saw it on the station's website. Here it is.
