Cards, Mils Each Split Twinbills

The Yorkton Cardinals and Melville Millionaires both split their games last night, each involved in doubleheaders.
The Cardinals and Weyburn Beavers both proved they could play defense, with each team shutting out the other... with Weyburn winning the first game 2-0 and Yorkton had a 6-0 victory in game two.
In game one, the Cards managed just 2 hits in seven innings... and it was the first two batters of the game... Kaleb Cunningham and Mark Magdeleno... they didn't score, and they couldn't muster another hit all night.
Mike Goemens took the loss for Yorkton, throwing the complete 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 10 hits... no walks, and he struck out 7.
In game two the Cardinals managed a much better fate, salvaging their 4 game road trip with the 6-0 win.
Buster Mueller pitched just 3 innings, but was solid, giving up just 1 hit while striking out 6. Max Guttierez and Thomas Berolzheimer held the fort the rest of the way.
Offensively, they were led by Sean Smith, who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Nick Longmire was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and one run.
Yorkton had a 4-run third inning and cruised the rest of the way.

Wednesday night, the Melville Millionaires were leading the Medicine Hat Mavericks 7-4 in the fourth inning when the rain fell, causing the game to be suspended, and completed last night.
The Mils must have lost their rhythm, as the Mavs came back to win 11-10.
There were hits galore in this one, with Med Hat out-hitting the Mils 17-14.
Matt Warr was 4-for-5 in a losing cause, with 5 RBIs and a run scored. Warr and Josh Correia each hit home runs.
- Then the two teams played a full 9 inning game, and this time Melville came from way back to win in the 9th.... they trailed 9-4 after 8, and scored NINE runs in the ninth inning to win 13-5. The Mils used 6 pitchers in the game. Medicine Hat's starter went 8 innings, before 3 different relievers combined to choke in the ninth.
Another 14 hits for the Mils in this one, and this time it was Sean Gaughon doing most of the damage, going 4-for-5 at the plate... 4 RBIs and 2 runs... catcher Brad Cochrane had 3 hits, while Benny Gardiner and Brandon Morgan each had 2.
The Mils road trip takes them to Lethbridge tonight and tomorrow.
